TVAA “Monsters” Exhibition

By | Exhibitions

For the TVAA “Monsters” Exhibition at Boise State Public Radio I made two assemblage pieces using plaster doll limbs.

“Venus in Fur” is a plaster doll leg painted with a venus fly-trap, and Fimo talons. Dried moss and stick pins top off the knee.

“Idle Hands are the Devil’s Playthings” is an assemblage of clasped doll hands with fabric arms which I stuffed and then appliqued with appropriately gruesome fabric. Fimo claws, dried moss and stick pins complete the piece.

“Confluence” — TVAA Exhibition on Collaboration “Four Eyes – An Optical Collusion”

By | Exhibitions

For TVAA’s exhibition on Collaboration, called “Four Eyes – An Optical Collusion,” I worked with 3 other artists to produce a limited Varied Edition of 8 prints of our woodcut titled “Confluence.”

Five separate wood blocks are connected by the white line of the Boise River running the length of the image.

The top two woodcuts of feathers are my work, the trees below are by Shirley McCarter (my mom), the blue nest of eggs on the rivers edge are by Marilyn Frazier, and the bottom woodcut of yellow cottonwood seeds against the red background is by Theresa Burkes.

We each cut our own individual blocks:

Then we each inked our blocks with different colors of ink and lined them up perfectly on the press:

Finally we pulled each print individually, creating a “Varied Edition” of 8 final prints:

“Abdication of the Sylvan Beauty Queen on the Occasion of Her Epiphany” — TVAA Exhibition on Collaboration”Four Eyes – An Optical Collusion”

By | Everything Else, Exhibitions, Surface Pattern Design

This was a collaborative piece with artist, Barbara Bowling who created a tiara, while I created a sash and a painted box with an etched mirror to display both the tiara and sash.

This is me modeling the tiara and sash:

And this is the painted box with the etched mirror which says “Forma Fugit” which means “Beauty is Fleeting.”

These are detail photos of the sash:

“City of Trees” — TVAA Metamorphosis Exhibition

By | Exhibitions, Public Art

TVAA had an exhibition called Metamorphosis and for it I put together a triptych of the paper cut-outs I made as prototypes for the Treefort Tarp project. I titled my piece “City of Trees.”

This triptych has three paper cut-outs which used 3 colors of paper. Before I made “City of Trees” I did cut-outs which only used 2 colors and those were photoshopped into a photo of the location where the actual Treefort Tarps Picadas would hang.
